|“Howliday“ Open House at Start Over Rover|
Start Over Rover, a non-profit, no-kill, animal rescue shelter, is celebrating this holiday season with their “Howliday” Open House, Saturday, December 7th, from 11am until 4pm. The public is invited to join the Start Over Rover volunteers for cookies and refreshments, photos with Santa, and a visit with Mrs. Claus and the elves. Children, adults and pets are welcome, with at least a $5 donation requested per photo. A digital copy of each photo will be provided. The event will be held at the Start Over Rover building at 134 North Barnes Ave., in Hastings.
|Hastings Parks & Recreation Merry Market Arts & Craft Show|
The Merry Market Arts & Craft Show sponsored by the Hastings Parks & Recreation Department will be held on Saturday, December 7th at the Hastings City Auditorium. The doors will open at 8:00AM and the show will last until 1:00PM. Over 20 vendors with the large number of holiday crafts & arts will be present. A full concession menu will also be available.

Mischa Johnson, director and educator of the Hastings Suzuki Strings Studio, brings her group to perform with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra on December 8.
|Holiday Lights Contest in Hastings|
The City of Hastings Parks & Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Holiday Lights Contest on December 11th. This contest is a free event and is limited to the first 20 homes that sign up. Registrations are due on December 9th and can be done over the phone by calling the Parks and Recreation offices at 461-2324. The judging will take place on December 11th and will be done by the Parks and Rec staff. The homes will be judged on creativity, proportion & scale of lights, Christmas spirit, and overall appearance. The winning home will receive a $50.00 gift certificate to Russ' Market.
|Have Santa Call Your Kids|
The City of Hastings Parks & Recreation Department will be making Santa Calls to children on December 10th and 12th. The calling will take place between 6pm and 8pm. Parents who want to sign their child up will need to fill out a registration form. Registration forms are available at the Parks & Recreation office. The deadline to register will be December 12th at 5pm.

From the warmth of a stove fireplace to the carols in the streets, from the smells of baking to the peace of a Christmas gone by, Stuhr Museum’s “Christmas Past and Present” is a holiday experience you can’t find anywhere else. This year’s event runs December 7, 13, 14 & 15 with Members Only night on December 6.

Perhaps the best-know ministry of the Grand Island Evangelical Free Church is the annual Singing Christmas Tree. Through the powerful music and drama, the church shared the story of Jesus with thousands every December. For ticket information, please call the church office at 308-382-1898 and ask for Sue. All ticket prices are the same – there is no difference for adults, children or seniors. Tickets must be ordered in advance. Please, no children under the age of 5. |National Weather Service Weather Photos Wanted|
Calling all weather photos for 2013! National Weather Service Hastings is hosting a 2013, end-of-year Facebook photo contest. Throughout December, you can submit your favorite weather related photo directly to our Facebook page. All the photos will be posted to a photo album on January 1, 2014. Fans will vote for the best photos between January 1 and January 15, 2014 to determine the top three photos. Those three photos will be used as a cover photo on the NWS Hastings Facebook page at some point in 2014. Here is what the NWS is looking for: • Weather Related • From Nebraska or Kansas • Taken in 2013 • Can be winter, spring, summer or fall Rules are simple: • The photo must be an original and be about the weather, astronomy or nature. • Please include the date and location of your photo. • Please include the words “This is for the photo contest” on your post.
