GI mayor charged with reckless driving
Posted: 03/20/13 09:11 The mayor of Grand Island has been charged with reckless driving in connection with a suspected drunken driving arrest. The misdemeanor was filed in Howard County Court against Mayor Jay Vavricek. Authorities recently received lab reports about his blood alcohol content from the March 2 arrest. The 59-year-old Vavricek was stopped on Highway 281 following a witness report about a suspected drunk driver. A police officer says he observed Vavricek driving on the shoulder of the road. Howard County Attorney David Schroeder did not disclose why he didn't file driving under the influence charges. He also wouldn't discuss Vavricek's blood alcohol content. Vavricek is due in court today.
