Tax modernization sets goals|
A special legislative committee reviewing the state tax system might serve more as a guide to possible legislation next year. The chairman of the legislature's Tax Modernization Committee sets a much-less bold goal for the committee than that advocated by the governor. Governor Heineman has called on the state to be bold in proposing changes to the state tax system. But Senator Galen Hadley of Kearney, chairman of the Tax Modernization Committee, says the committee can serve the Unicameral best by guiding it. Hadley says he doesn't want the committee to get too caught up in recent rosy revenue numbers. The committee is studying the present state tax system. It will then hold public hearings. It has a deadline of mid-December for releasing its report to the Unicameral.
