Hastings First Friday

A NEW event in Downtown Hastings. Hastings First Friday's will start on May 3rd, 2013. The Hastings Downtown Center Association and the Hastings Museum will be joining forces and hosting an event in Downtown Hastings the First Friday of every month. Dates are as follows: May 3rd, June 7th, July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th. 

Starting at 5:00pm the event will be spread throughout Downtown Hastings. We will have an array of activities throughout Downtown Hastings, including a night farmers market, local crafters, live music, and youth and family activities. The activities will vary from month to month. The best way to know about the current schedule is to LIKE us on our Facebook Page at Hastings First Friday.   Downtown shops, cafes and pubs are encouraged to be open later hours on the First Friday’s and some will have special sales just for this event.

Each month a complete list of art related activities will be posted on our Facebook Page. May’s events will include Hastings College Junior Art Reception at Graham Gallery, professional art displays in Central Park and throughout Downtown Hastings,  a live painting demonstration:location TBD, access to the Elinor Bartholomew Memorial Fine Arts Festival at Saint Marks, a drum circle and belly dance demonstration in Central park, additional art shops open at the Old Middle School.

Juxtaposition.   Definition: The act or placement of two things (usually abstract concepts) near each other. The Hastings Museum will sponsorJuxtaposition  from 6:00-7:00pm at the Stein Building, 620 W 2nd St.  Two speakers will talk on two different subjects for 20 minutes each.  There will be a joint Q & A section at the end.

May’s Juxtaposition  speakers include Michella Marino: The Diary of a Roller Derby Girl and Russ Specht: The Secret World of Balloon Animals.
