Legislature tries to increase spending|
State legislators have a bit of wiggle room this year to increase spending slightly. After years of very tight budgets in wake of the recession, the proposed budget delivered today to the legislature contains between 41-and-48 Million dollars to pay for bills that will require extra spending. Appropriations Committee Chairman Heath Mello of Omaha believes enough is there to pay for the top priorities of the legislature. That number will likely rise a bit in wake of a compromise on public school funding that could add another 7-to-8 Million dollars to the total.
