Keystone pipleine debate heats up in Albion

Posted: 12/05/12 08:28

The town of Albion became thee battle ground in the final public hearing before the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality completes its review of the Keystone XL pipeline placing the decision in the hands of Gov. Dave Heineman, who has voiced support for the project. Now the federal government will have the final say on whether the pipeline is built. While labor and business organizations are in favor of the project others expressed concerns about oil leaks fouling groundwater and ruining farming operations. They said the new route should be rejected because it still crosses ground similar to that in the Sand Hills and doesn't avoid the Ogallala Aquifer.
